CUPERTINO, California / ConSynSer / – Apple has introduced a redesigned MacBook Pro with a tandem OLED display and touch input, making it the first Mac to support touch. The company announced the 14-inch and 16-inch models on October 28 and opened pre-orders the same day. The laptops use a new panel that Apple calls the PROLED XDR display. Apple said it reaches up to 2000 nits of peak brightness and a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Deliveries and in-store availability begin on November 6.

Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer, called the new MacBook Pro a monumental step forward for the Mac. The display supports adaptive refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz. It covers both the P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces and more than 80% of Rec. 2020 for HDR work. Slimmer borders give screen sizes of 14.2 and 16.3 inches. An optional nano-texture finish is now etched into the cover glass. Earlier models, including the M3 MacBook Pro lineup of 2023, used mini-LED displays.
The touch sensor is built directly into the display panel rather than layered on top, which Apple said reduces latency. Users can swipe, pinch to zoom, drag and drop slides and double-tap a window to fill the screen. Designers can draw across the whole display and musicians can play software instruments onscreen. Many existing apps work with touch at launch because macOS translates touches into clicks. The Dynamic Island also arrives on the Mac as the home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI.
M5 Pro and M5 Max power thinner design
The new laptops run on the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Each GPU core includes a Neural Accelerator for AI workloads, and the GPUs use a third-generation ray-tracing engine. Apple said M5 Max can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters entirely on the device. Apple first offered M5 Pro and M5 Max in MacBook Pro models in March 2026. A redesigned thermal system keeps warm air away from the display.
The 14-inch model now weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than before. The 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, a reduction of 0.7 pounds. The 16-inch version is nearly a millimetre thinner, while the 14-inch is half a millimetre thinner. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours, with fast charging to 50% in 30 minutes. A six-speaker system delivers 50% deeper bass. Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC slot, MagSafe, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
Prices start at $2,899 in the US
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at $2,899 in the US, while the 16-inch M5 Pro model starts at $3,399. Versions with M5 Max start at $4,499 for the 14-inch and $4,799 for the 16-inch. Education pricing starts at $2,749 and $3,199 for the M5 Pro models. Pre-orders are open on Apple’s online store in 30 countries and regions, including the US. US buyers can also lease the laptop through Apple Upgrade from $55.99 a month over 36 months.
The MacBook Pro ships with macOS 27, which includes Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features across apps. Siri AI is available in beta in macOS 27.2 in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple said the laptop contains 55% recycled content, including 100% recycled aluminium in the enclosure and recycled cobalt in the battery. It also uses fully recycled tantalum in several capacitors, a first for Apple. The launch follows the MacBook Air M4, which Apple released in March 2025.
